More Than $1 Million Awarded for Local Projects, Pugh Says

May 21, 2025

HARRISBURG – Rep. Brenda Pugh (R-Luzerne) today announced $1.615 million in Local Share Account grants from gaming revenues have been awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) to projects in Luzerne County.

Local Share Account grants support economic development, job training, community improvement and public interest projects through gaming funds under Act 71 of 2004.

“I'm proud to support efforts to secure grant funding for the purchase of essential equipment and projects for municipal services in the 120th Legislative District,” Pugh said. “Our local governments make the most of their vehicles and equipment, but eventually, replacements become necessary. Through these grants, the cost to make these upgrades will not be borne by the taxpayers.”

Those receiving grants were:
• Dallas Borough – $150,000 on behalf of Back Mountain Regional Fire and EMS Fire Rescue for a new truck.
• Dallas Township – $65,000 to purchase and upfit a police vehicle.
• Exeter Borough – $300,000 to replace and separate sanitary and storm sewer systems along Barber, Orchard and Lincoln streets.
• Exeter Borough – $50,000 for Westside Revitalization Phase V along Route 11/Wyoming Avenue.
• Forty Fort Borough -- $75,000 to purchase maintenance equipment for roadway and tree removal projects.
• Forty Fort Borough -- $50,000 to purchase and install servers for the police department and administrative office.
• Forty Fort Borough -- $65,000 to purchase and upfit a police vehicle.
• Franklin Township -- $90,000 to purchase road equipment.
• Jackson Township -- $65,000 to purchase and upfit a police vehicle.
• Jackson Township on behalf of a community partnership – $300,000 to purchase shared public works equipment for road departments in the Back Mountain area.
• Kingston Municipality -- $200,000 to purchase a new compaction truck.
• Swoyersville Borough -- $75,000 to construct a street department equipment garage.
• Wyoming Borough -- $130,000 to repair eight roads.

Pugh worked with Sen. Lisa Baker (R-20) on all grants except Wyoming Borough, which was with Sen. Marty Flynn (D-22).

The 120th Legislative District includes Courtdale, Exeter, Forty Fort, Kingston, Luzerne, Pringle, Swoyersville, West Wyoming and Wyoming boroughs, as well as Dallas, Exeter, Franklin, Jackson and Kingston townships in Luzerne County.
